Meet Ginsey

Sep 28, 2021

Tell us a little bit about your background before joining The Key team.

This past spring, I graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.A. in Communication, with concentrations in multimedia journalism, public relations and cinema. Throughout college, I aimed to get a wide range of experiences, from joining Pi Beta Phi to working on the football field with Virginia Tech Athletics. During that time, I dabbled in photography, videography, gained leadership experience and developed an addiction to thrifting and upcycling.

I grew up in the city with the largest, freestanding, man-made neon star, aka Roanoke, Virginia. Growing up in a small town drove me to the desire to move somewhere far away where I could meet new people and experience cultures apart from what I know. That mindset eventually led me to The Key, and while working is still remote, I’m thrilled to be a part of such an amazing, diverse team.

Describe your work style in five words.

Adaptable, collaborative, communicative, positive, open minded

What are your favorite kinds of projects to tackle?

I love projects where I can be creative and truly see the impact of the work I’m doing. There’s such a thrill in being able to continuously learn and collaborate with others while immersing myself in the work.

What’s your proudest moment at work (here or elsewhere)?

One of my proudest moments would have to be when I filmed and edited Pi Beta Phi’s philanthropy and sisterhood videos for recruitment. This was the first time I was able to truly explore my love for videography while being trusted to create a video that represented an organization I cared about. I had never found myself as someone who could call the shots, and these videos granted me the independence and freedom to delve into my individualism and creative voice. It was an amazing feeling hearing the feedback from other members, and potential new members (PNMs) knowing my work had an influence. I even got a compliment from a YouTuber who was going through recruitment at the time, which warmed my heart.

What makes you the most excited to be at The Key?

The Key’s forward-thinking and admirable values exceeded my expectations of what a workplace meant to me. I’m so excited to be working with such a dedicated, passionate, intelligent team. Working alongside these amazing people has been such an inspiring and enlightening experience. There is never a dull day and I cannot wait to see what else is in store!

Lightning Round:

Favorite snack while you work? Sour candy, kettle corn, and Flaming Hot Cheetos.

Badass female role model? AOC, Sophia Bush, Brit Marling, my amazing friends, mother, and sisters!

Power song? “Gimmie! Gimmie! Gimme!” by ABBA

If you could have a superpower, what would it be? Definitely teleportation. The world is so big and I want to see it all, so eliminating the travel expenses would make things a little easier! Also teleporting to outer space would be so fun.
