Meet Donna

Tell us a little bit about your background before joining The Key team.

I've always been interested in the different mediums that connect people, so I pursued a BA in Communication at UCSB. As an undergrad research assistant, I got to further my analytical skills and worked alongside my professor to examine the effects of virtual reality on mental health. On top of that, I focused the majority of my academic research on gender and ethnic studies, sustainability and the varying ways people cope with climate change. (Dabbled in creative writing, too!) After graduating, I interned for Youth Climate Collaborative where I researched barriers to youth involvement in the environmental space. As I grew familiar with the impact of communication, I began envisioning myself working in PR to make big things happen. Which finally led me to The Key.

I come from a first generation family and speak fluent Mandarin and Cantonese (currently learning Spanish)! Values that guide me through life are to be honest and intentional in everything I do. I love the outdoors, animals, cooking, art, music, film, fashion, comedy, fixing things, and honestly a little bit of everything. My friends call me a jack of all trades but a master of none. I also play the drums, guitar, and piano but suck at all three -- hit me up if you wanna jam tho!

Describe your work style in five words.
Flexible, driven, supportive, logical, innovative.

What are your favorite kinds of projects to tackle?
Social impact and creative projects are the ones that really inspire me. I also love learning, connecting with people, and taking on new challenges so anything that pushes me to get out of my comfort zone is always welcomed.

What’s your proudest moment at work (here or elsewhere)?
One of my proudest moments is when my friends and I started a hackathon that brought together hundreds of young engineers to develop software to tackle social, health, and education issues. It was life changing to see a mere idea come to fruition and inspire others to trust their potential to make a positive impact in the world.

What makes you the most excited to be at The Key?
It’s an honor to be jumpstarting my PR career at a progressive, no bs agency. The culture and values here really align with my own so I’m excited to see the kind of projects we will take on. I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn the skills it takes to have a successful and impactful professional career while working alongside brilliant people.
